Abstract/Summary/Outline:

Reading the past through the piano music of nineteenth-century New South Wales has used an archaeological approach based on postmodern theory. Piano scores have been regarded as artefacts with associated meanings illuminating the contexts surrounding their creation, function and application. Colonial piano scores have been examined to explore the various messages they convey about life in New South Wales during the nineteenth-century.
