Abstract/Summary/Outline:

Henrique Oswald (1852−1931) was a late romantic Brazilian composer, respected in life, but who gradually fell into disregard after his death. He lived for 35 years in Europe and there developed his compositional style, returning in his 50s to a country very different from that which he left as a 16 year old. The late disregard was a result of the ascendency of the nationalist/​modernist movement which rose in influence after the Week of Modern Art in 1922...
